How this comparison works
Profit = what you receive after the platform's fees, minus your shipping label (where you buy one) and what you paid for the item. Standard settings for each platform:
- eBay: most categories, no Store: 13.6% of item + shipping + tax, plus $0.40 per order.
- Poshmark: 20% ($2.95 under $15). The buyer pays shipping, so your label cost doesn't apply.
- Mercari: 10% of item + buyer-paid shipping, with no processing fee.
- Depop: no selling fee; 3.3% + $0.45 processing on the order total. Not boosted.
- Whatnot: 8% commission + 2.9% + $0.30 processing on the order total. The buyer pays shipping to Whatnot.
- Etsy: 6.5% transaction + 3% + $0.25 processing + $0.20 listing. Not an Offsite Ads sale.
- Facebook Marketplace: shipped order, 10% of the total (minimum $0.80). Local pickup is free.
- TikTok Shop: 6% referral fee. No affiliate commission.

What's the cheapest place to sell online?
By fees alone, local cash sales and Facebook Marketplace pickup are free, and Depop's US fees (3.3% + $0.45 processing) are the lowest of the big shipping marketplaces. But the best place is where your item sells fastest at the best price. A lower fee doesn't help if the item sits.
Which platform has the highest fees?
For items over $15, Poshmark's 20% is usually the highest, although Poshmark buyers pay their own shipping. eBay's 13.6% applies to shipping and tax too, which adds up on heavier items.
Why does sales tax change the fees?
eBay and Facebook charge their percentage on the whole transaction including the sales tax they collect, and Depop, Whatnot and Etsy charge payment processing on the order total including tax.
